The question "should we redesign our website?" is often the wrong question. The right question is: what problem are we trying to solve? The answer determines whether you need a redesign, a rebuild, or something else entirely.
What a redesign addresses
A redesign changes the visual presentation: layout, color palette, typography, imagery. It is the right solution when the visual identity no longer reflects the brand. A redesign does not fix underlying technical problems.
What a rebuild addresses
A rebuild changes the underlying architecture: the CMS, the framework, the content model, the integrations. It is the right solution when the site cannot be maintained efficiently or cannot scale to meet business needs.
The hybrid case
When a site needs both, the temptation is to do both at once. This is usually a mistake — it doubles the scope and risk. The better approach is to sequence the work: rebuild first on the existing design, then redesign once the new architecture is stable.
